US Hourly-to-Salary Paycheck Estimator

Planning estimate only. Actual take-home pay depends on filing status, deductions, benefits, local taxes and current IRS/state rules.

How Hourly Pay Translates to Annual Gross and Net Income

An hourly rate is easiest to compare with a salary when both use the same hours and time period. This calculator estimates weekly gross pay by multiplying hourly pay by hours worked per week. It then assumes 52 paid weeks per year: annual gross pay = hourly rate × weekly hours × 52. The monthly figure is annual gross pay divided by 12, while the biweekly figure is two typical weeks. These are averages, not a guarantee of the amount on every paycheck.

For example, at $30 per hour and 40 hours a week, estimated weekly gross pay is $1,200 and annual gross pay is $62,400 before deductions. The monthly average is $5,200. Unpaid leave, weeks without work, variable shifts, overtime, bonuses, and employer payroll schedules can make actual yearly earnings different. Overtime is not automatically included by the simple hourly-rate multiplication unless you adjust the hours or rate yourself.

Gross pay versus net take-home pay

Gross income is pay before deductions. Net income is what remains after taxes and other deductions. The calculator applies the federal and state percentages you enter to each gross-pay period, then subtracts those estimates. This is intentionally a simplified scenario, not an IRS payroll calculation: it does not determine progressive tax brackets, Social Security or Medicare withholding, local tax, filing status, credits, retirement contributions, health insurance, or other benefits.

For a more realistic comparison, use current tax guidance and your actual pay stub, and account for deductions consistently when comparing a job offer with a salary. Paid time off and employer benefits may also change the value of compensation. Treat the result as a planning estimate rather than a promise of take-home pay, tax advice, or a substitute for a payroll professional.
