Estimate a crypto trade after fees

The price shown on a chart is not the same as the amount you receive after a trade. Exchanges can charge separate fees when you acquire and dispose of an asset. Even a small percentage can change the result when the trade is large or the expected price move is narrow. This calculator estimates a single long spot position from an entry price, exit price, quantity and percentage fee on each side.

Formula and example

Gross entry cost is entry price × quantity. The buy fee is added to that amount, so total cost is gross entry cost multiplied by one plus the buy-fee rate. Gross exit proceeds are exit price × quantity, and the sell fee is deducted from those proceeds. Estimated profit or loss is net exit proceeds minus total cost. Return on cost divides that result by total cost. The approximate break-even exit price includes both fee rates.

For example, buying 0.08 of an asset at $62,000 creates $4,960 of gross exposure before the entry fee. If the exit price is $67,500, gross proceeds are $5,400 before the exit fee. The net result is not simply the $440 difference: both fees reduce it. The break-even price can therefore sit above your entry price even when the chart price is flat at entry.

Understand the limits before trusting a result

This calculator covers only the entered spot transaction. It does not model exchange spread, order-book slippage, withdrawal or blockchain network fees, funding payments, borrowing cost, staking, mining, airdrops, leverage or liquidation risk. Add known non-percentage costs elsewhere in your records before treating this result as final. Token units, decimals and transaction timestamps should match the actual trade confirmation.

Profit on a trade also does not tell you the tax due. Tax treatment can depend on residence, tax year, acquisition basis, disposal rules, transaction type and the rest of the year's activity. Keep exchange exports, wallet transfer records, fees, acquisition dates and the currency conversion method. Moving an asset between wallets you control should not be casually entered as if it were a sale.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include crypto taxes? No. It only calculates fee-adjusted trade arithmetic.

Can I use it for a short or leveraged trade? No. The model assumes buying first and selling later from a spot position; it does not account for leverage or short selling.

Where can I review tax records? Use the existing crypto tax and profit/loss estimator, read the US/UK recordkeeping guide, or compare an ordinary stock trade using the stock profit calculator.
